This position will suit a hands-on finance professional who enjoys working closely with operational teams in a dynamic project‑based environment.
About the Role
As Project Accountant, you will be responsible for the end‑to‑end financial management of projects, ensuring accurate reporting, strong financial controls and compliance with statutory and organisational requirements. You will work extensively with Site Leaders, Project Managers, Operations and Executive stakeholders, contributing to continuous business improvement and project profitability.
This is a newly created role offering scope to make a real impact on systems, processes and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Financial & Project Accounting
- Oversee and monitor project budgets, costs, revenues and cash flow
- Track project expenses, perform detailed cost analysis, job costing, and identify opportunities for efficiencies
- Maintain the integrity of the General Ledger, including regular reconciliations
- Maintain Fixed Asset Registers, including asset movements
- Assist with annual insurance renewal
- Prepare and review annual financial accounts
- Assist with monthly management accounts and Board reporting
- Analyse budget variances and provide clear insights to project and operational teams
- Support financial forecasting, risk assessment and cost modelling
- Assist with statutory accounting and tax reporting obligations
- Support internal and external audits, including liaison with external accountants and auditors
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations and internal controls
- Approve project‑related invoices and expenses
- Issue client invoices and oversee timely collection of payments
- Manage interactions with external debtors, creditors, suppliers and key customers
- Assist with the development and implementation of financial system and process improvements
- Contribute commercial insights to optimise resource allocation and project profitability
- Ensure financial processes and site interactions align with WHS legislation and company safety standards
- Promote a zero‑tolerance approach to drugs and alcohol and a culture of safety and accountability
About You
- CA/CPA qualified with tertiary qualifications in Accounting or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in an accounting role, ideally within construction, manufacturing or project‑based environments
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with high attention to detail
- Proficiency in accounting systems, specifically MYOB and Excel
- Ability to communicate complex financial information to non‑financial stakeholders
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- Strategic thinking and forecasting capability, with a track record of driving improvement
