Are you an experienced Payroll Officer who loves getting the details right, takes pride in delivering an exceptional service, and wants your work to contribute to something meaningful?

Lifeline WA is seeking a capable, proactive and people-focused Payroll Officer to join our team on a fixed-term maternity leave contract. This is an opportunity to take ownership of end-to-end payroll in a purpose-driven organisation, supporting the people who help make a difference in the lives of others.

Working three full days per week, you'll play an important role in ensuring our people are paid accurately and on time, while maintaining strong payroll controls, compliance and records. You'll be part of a collaborative team that values trust, respect, connection and excellence.

The opportunity
  • Start date: Ideally 4 January 2027
  • Contract: Fixed-term maternity leave cover through to 30 June 2028
  • Working days: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday — all three days are essential.
What you'll be doing You'll coordinate accurate, timely and compliant fortnightly payroll for approximately 170 employees, including around 70 full-time staff and 100 Crisis Supporters who are paid based on timesheets.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Managing the end-to-end fortnightly payroll cycle, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
  • Maintaining employee payroll records, including new starters, contract changes, pay point progressions, allowances, deductions, leave and terminations.
  • Applying your knowledge of the SCHADS Award to support accurate pay calculations and compliant payroll outcomes.
  • Administering payroll systems, investigating discrepancies and resolving payroll exceptions.
  • Completing payroll journals, payments, statutory lodgements, reporting and reconciliations.
  • Managing month-end payroll processes and associated balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintaining complete payroll documentation, audit trails and strong internal controls.
  • Responding to employee and manager enquiries with professionalism, discretion and a service-focused approach.
Ideally, you'll bring:
  • At least three years' experience in end-to-end payroll processing.
  • Strong working knowledge of the SCHADS Award and relevant payroll compliance requirements will be highly regarded.
  • Experience managing fortnightly payroll for a diverse workforce, including timesheet-based employees.
  • Experience with ELMO and confidence navigating payroll and HR systems.
  • Practical experience with payroll reconciliations, journals, lodgements, reporting and month-end processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities within tight deadlines.
  • Above all, you'll bring a positive attitude, a proactive mindset and a genuine commitment to being part of a supportive, values-driven team.
