We are seeking a commercially astute and strategically minded Head of Finance & Risk to join our executive leadership team. This is a pivotal role responsible for financial stewardship, governance, regulatory oversight and enterprise risk management across the business.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will lead the Finance, Risk & Compliance function while acting as a trusted adviser to the Owner-Director team. You will balance hands-on operational delivery with strategic oversight, ensuring the business operates with financial discipline, regulatory integrity and robust risk management frameworks.
This role is ideally suited to an experienced senior finance leader who thrives in a professional services or financial services environment and enjoys operating both strategically and operationally.
Key Responsibilities include:
Financial Leadership & Governance
- Lead financial governance, internal controls, and prudent cash management
- Deliver accurate and timely monthly management reporting, quarterly Owner-Director reporting, and annual statutory reporting
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and scenario analysis
- Sign off statutory accounts, audit representations and ASIC lodgements
- Partner with external auditors, tax advisers, financial institutions, and legal advisers
- Act as the central finance business partner across the organisation
- Support executive decision-making with data-driven insights
- Contribute to strategic initiatives including pricing reviews, fee model design, M&A activity, and major business projects
- Shape business dashboards, reporting frameworks and performance metrics
- Lead the enterprise risk framework within agreed risk appetite
- Oversee all regulatory and compliance obligations including AFSL, AUSTRAC, Privacy, OHS and core business agreements
- Ensure regulatory integrity and effective mitigation of business risk
- Escalate or halt initiatives where financial or risk tolerances are threatened
- Champion financial systems, automation, and digital transformation
- Drive process improvement, workflow optimisation, and documentation standards
- Provide leadership and technical guidance within the function
You are a commercially minded finance leader who combines strong technical capability with sound business judgement and leadership presence.
- CPA or CA qualification (essential)
- Commercially minded with strong communication and leadership skills
- Proven experience in a senior finance, commercial or business operations leadership role
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and improve finance operations
- Experience engaging with regulators and external professional advisers
- Strong understanding of accounting standards and tax principles
- Experience within financial services or AFSL environments (highly regarded)
- A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to work at both strategic and operational levels
