The City of Karratha is one of Western Australia’s most exciting regions for career and lifestyle opportunities. As the largest city in the Pilbara, Karratha offers a vibrant community, outstanding facilities, year-round sunshine, and access to some of Australia’s most spectacular natural landscapes.

Reporting to the Director Corporate Services, the City is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Chief Financial Officer to provide strategic financial leadership and ensure the ongoing financial sustainability of the organisation.

This is a pivotal leadership position responsible for the City's financial services function, including budgeting, financial planning, reporting, compliance, investment management, rates, audit coordination, and long-term financial strategy. Working closely with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and Council, you will provide trusted advice that supports informed decision making and strong organisational performance.

As Chief Financial Officer, you will lead a high performing finance team while driving continuous improvement, financial accountability and strategic outcomes across the organisation. You will be a trusted advisor to the Executive Leadership Team and Council, requiring the confidence and executive presence to present complex financial matters, influence decision making and lead through a fast paced and evolving environment

This is your opportunity to:
  • Lead the financial stewardship of one of Western Australia’s largest regional local governments.
  • Provide strategic financial advice to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and Council.
  • Drive long term financial planning and sustainability initiatives.
  • Manage the City's investment portfolio and optimise financial performance.
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, statutory reporting and audit processes.
  • Deliver meaningful financial insights that improve decision making across the organisation.
  • Foster a high performing, customer focused finance team and culture.

We are looking for a leader with:
  • Significant experience in a senior financial management or Chief Financial Officer role.
  • Strong expertise in financial planning, reporting, governance, compliance and risk management.
  • Experience managing budgets, investments, borrowing strategies and organisational performance reporting.
  • Sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and preferably the Local Government Act 1995 and Financial Management Regulations.
  • Proven leadership capability with a track record of building, mentoring and leading high performing teams through change and complexity.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to present financial and strategic information to Council, Executive Leadership and a broad range of stakeholders.
  • A resilient, solutions focused and politically astute leadership style, with the ability to navigate competing priorities and operate effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong commercial acumen, sound judgement and the ability to translate complex financial information into meaningful business insights that support decision-making.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Financial Management or a related discipline, together with CPA or equivalent accreditation
